After having fun in the island sun, there are a few nightlife options. Every corner of Kauai has happening entertainment just about every night of the week.
It may not be New York, Miami or L.A. It’s winding down from those nightspots. But Kauai provides a little island action under the stars. Where do the locals hang when the moon is up and the surf is down? Their favorite bars of course. There’s lots of them, many that feature live music. This is an island that shuts down early get started before 10pm. NORTHSHOREHanaleiSushi Blues, a trendy upstairs lounge in Ching Young Village, has a good reputation for good food and a variety of music, that includes, reggae, rhythm, blues, rock and local groups draw revelers on Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday starting at 8:30 pm. Unpredictable and innovative. Check ahead for format changes. Hanalei Gourmet, in the Old Hanalei Schoolhouse across from Sushi Blues, keeps the music going until 10:30 most nights. It offers five nights a week of local Hawaiian music. Up the hill in Princeville, The Living Room is a place to enjoy magnificent sunsets and live entertainment nightly from 7:30 pm to 10:30 pm. Slack key guitarist, Ken Emerson, noted for his recording on the first Hawaiian winning Grammy CD, performs on Sundays. Songwriter/keyboardist, Michael Ruff entertains on Tuesdays. Jazz duo, Rick Avallon and Daryl Miyasato work it out evenings, Thursday-Saturday. A gem for music lover’s, Happy Talk Lounge, in the Hanalei Bay Resort, has a Sunday Jazzy Jam for aficionados. Happy Talk provides contemporary music Monday thru Friday. When it’s happening some of the best blues on the island can be heard at the Landing Pad in the old Princeville Airport next to the Heli USA heliport. WESTSIDEHanapepeDominated by artists, “Kauai’s Biggest Little Town” is a home to more fine art galleries than any other place on the island. Every night, the artists open their galleries from 6-9 pm to chat with visitors and showcase their work. Fridays is Artwalk in Hanapepe, with a different gallery hosting. Waimea Brewing Co. lights up with live Hawaiian music on Thursdays and Grinds Café in Eleele Shopping Center has open mic nights on Saturday 7pm. EASTSIDEThe Shack in Kapaa and Lizard Lounge offers food with billiards. Live music at Tradewinds each Friday night beginning 9:30 and the DJ plays dance music Wednesdays. The other five nights you can perform karaoke, and each Saturday patrons enter a karaoke contest. Caffe Coco in the center of Waipouli offers music (weather permitting) and Belly Dancing on Tuesdays, the Honey Flowers featuring Hula with Daphne Therese and Saturday the Lost Pelican Band entertains with political folk music. LIHUEThe Hilton Kauai Beach Hotel hosts a dinner theater featuring the Rogers and Hammerstein musical, South Pacific each Monday and Wednesday evening. On Kalapaki Beach, Duke’s Barefoot Bar features live contemporary Hawaiian music each Friday night downstairs from 4-6pm and 9-11 pm. Rob’s Good Times Grill, a popular sports bar is a few doors down from Lihue Bowling Alley. At Rob’s you’re treated to nightly entertainment. Sunday, Monday and Tuesday is karaoke 6 p.m.-2 a.m. Wednesday country line dancing starting at 7:30 pm. Thursday and Saturday DJ top-40s 9 pm- 2 am : Friday nights offer dance music with a large area dance floor. SOUTH SIDEThe Point located in the Kauai Sheraton a DJ offers great music starting at 8:30pm; the band Take Off performs on Friday nights 8:30-12:30pm and on Saturday its Latin Salsa Fiesta 8 pm-12:30 pm. Stevenson’s Library, in the Hyatt Regency Hotel, serves up elegant after-dinner drinks and nightly from 8-11pm. Also, at the Hyatt is family entertainment with a torch lighting ceremony and Keiki Hula Show on Tuesdays and Saturdays starting at 6:30pm with Hawaiian music nightly from 6-8pm.
